Sue 'Boomer' Jenkins is an inmate at Wentworth Correctional Centre.
Sue is known by her nickname "Boomer" as she always "kept coming back to prison" after multiple releases she continued a path of life in prison.
Boomer's life before Wentworth is seen growing up with her mother May Jenkins always putting her down to the point where Boomer told prison psych Greg Miller that it was impossible to get along with her.
Boomer makes the ultimate sacrifice when Liz Birdsworth who is suffering from the effects of dementia suffers a stroke causing locked in syndrome smothers her with a pillow.
Boomer facing the prospect of life behind bars for Liz's death begins to serve as acting top dog while Allie recovers from her injuries, but Boomer has other ideas when she plans to become pregnant from Gavin Thompson. Boomer's dream comes true when she becomes pregnant and at the same time learns that Gavin has been arrested for bringing the camera into Wentworth.
Boomer survives the prison explosion, saddened by the loss of H1.
Time in Wentworth
Boomer is usually called upon for her physical strength and even offers her services to others such as Bea or Franky but develops as a caring and compassionate character during Maxine's chemotherapy and biopsy; even going as far as to offering some of her breasts to Maxine for replacement.
In Season 5, Boomer will be put in charge by inmate Sonia Stevens for her 'Green wall' project, and will take this responsibility as serious as possible, seeing in it the first chance in her life to realise something positive.
After realising that Franky and Allie have an escape plan which involves the project, she tells Franky that she will report it to the guards, knowing that otherwise the 'Green wall' will be closed. Despite that, after being moved by compassion for her intimate friend, she will in the end help her escape.
Season 6
Ep 12
Ruby is in the yard boxing as Boomer asks Ruby when the fight is and Ruby says that it is in a few months. Boomer says that she doesn't know if she'll ever get out thanks to Cherry Li, Ruby then says it wasn't her fault that she got bashed, as Allie walks over and Boomer tells her not to distract Ruby as she has a new bestie and bye, as Ruby continues boxing she gets annoyed and stops as she tells Boomer she needs a minute and Liz takes Boomer away for a walk.

Liz is in her cell looking at all the things she has collected including looking at Franky's kite necklace, Liz is writing down notes as Boomer asks what she is up to and Liz says that she is writing little notes so she can't forget those memories, as Boomer sits next to her and reads one of them and says 'the women yarn bombed the yard for me..' and Liz reads another one which is 'Boomer tried to get young Joshua to say tits'. Boomer and Liz share a laugh over that one and says that Doreen was annoyed that they tried to teach him that, Boomer says to read another one and Liz does reading the memory of Bea's first day inside. Boomer says that she misses Bea, and Liz says that she does as well. Boomer then says that she misses Maxine, Franky and Doreen and says that "sometimes that world feels like it's moving past me and I'm just standing still.." Liz then says she knows that feeling well. Boomer looks and says that Liz seems normal again and Liz tells Boomer that she is taking one day at a time as she has her good and bad days. Linda comes in and tells Boomer that the governor wishes to see her as Boomer complains and asks if she is in trouble again, Linda says probably as Boomer leaves.
Boomer learns her charges have been dropped
Linda comes in and says that Jenkins is here to see her, Vera says thank you as Boomer walks in and Linda closes the door, Boomer says 'yeah' as Vera says that she may want to sit for what she is about to tell her, Boomer sits down as she looks down, as Vera tells Boomer that she has just gotten off the phone with the DPP and the police have dropped the charges against her for the assault on Cherry Li, Boomer looks surprised as she celebrates happily asking what strings did she have to pull for that to work out and Vera says that it was no strings and a lack of forensics, Boomer cheers a "yeah lack of forensics!" so loudly Linda opens the door, as Vera tells Boomer to sit and says that now that her parole is coming up to make no more announcements, Boomer says that there will be no trouble and Vera calls for Linda, Linda opens the door as Vera tells Boomer she can leave as Boomer tells Linda that she is getting parole as Linda mouths 'really?' to Vera. Vera watches Boomer leave and she is happy for her.
In the yard, Boomer is talking with Ruby and says that now that the police have dropped her charges that maybe she can join Ruby for her fight in Manilla and Ruby chuckles at Boomer mispronouncing Manilla and says that she will save her a seat ring side, as Rita comes over and Boomer says that her charges have been dropped, Rita says that she is happy for her.
Ruby walks with Boomer to the boiler room as Boomer asks Ruby if she wants juice or water and Ruby says that she is fine and as Boomer says that she is going to smash Routh's face in, as Vicky comes over and says that Routh as pulled out of the fight and she will be fighting someone else, Boomer asks who and it is revealed to be Drago much to Boomer and Ruby's surprise as Drago looks at her, Ruby walks forward and says 'lets get on with it.' Rita catches up and calls out to Ruby as Boomer says that she doesn't want to speak with her as Rita tells Boomer to shut up, as Ruby says that the fight is about to start and Rita says that it can wait and tells Boomer to go away. Boomer yells out the fight is about to start as Rita finally reveals to Ruby that she is still a cop and that she has seen the footage and always knew it was her, she came into Wentworth to protect her from Marie and she cannot go ahead with the fight, Ruby looks on shocked.
Boomer watches the fight unfold and in the end is one of the many inmates that watch Rita beat Drago to death, Boomer is last seen sitting at the table with Kaz as the prison is placed into lockdown before moving to her cell.
Season 7
While Boomer gets news again of her parole as a date has been set for her hearing, she has become Liz's shadow as Liz has deteriorated over the past months, she protects Liz out in the yard when Kylee holds Vera hostage and is there at the doomed wedding of Ray and Rita.
In episode two Boomer is seen continuing helping Liz with her bucket list and ticks one thing off of it, The Tango. Boomer also has a session with Dr Miller.
Boomer continues to help Liz make her bucket list items come true, organizes a male prostitute through Allie, and attempts to get Linda Miles to sign off on it, but at first refuses when she claims she didn't want to lose her job as she had just been promoted. Boomer and Ruby make jokes with newbie Narelle Stang and they talk about what happened with Stang's brother. Later Linda catches up to Boomer and Linda wants $200 for the sign off on Liz's visit, Boomer agrees but has to fundraise first.
Boomer in episode 6 receives day release and meets up with her mother May Jenkins after a long time behind bars, the two have a very rocky relationship as Boomer tells May that she ruined her life and that May caused her Foetal Alcohol Syndrome, the two talk and go for ice-cream. But things go wrong when May steals tins of baby formula, Boomer spends the night in Frankston lockup before being sent back to the prison, where she tells her mother never to press the panic button, but she ignores her and does it anyway, but in the same moment Ruby collapses.
Boomer in episode 7 discusses with Dr Miller her bad relationship with her mother and tells him it "sucks arse" as the two have never been able to get along even when she was a child. She also worries about Ruby and even asks Linda Miles for an update and offers to pay but Linda tells her that its fine and she will update them if there is news.
In episode 10, promises to protect Liz in the laundry, and takes Marie hostage in an attempt for everyone to get out of the laundry but it fails. She releases Marie and Sean shoots May, to the horror of everyone in the laundry. Boomer and Liz help deliver Vera's baby, and is there when Liz suffers a stroke, which causes locked-in syndrome. Boomer makes good on Liz's final wish and smothers her with a pillow, killing her. Boomer is slotted and it is revealed she will be formally charged with manslaughter, giving up the one thing she fought for, freedom.
Season 8
In episode one is seen first talking with inmates when Lou re-enters the compound, runs and tells Allie, Ruby and Mandy that Kelly has come back to Wentworth, and says Kelly is nuts and chops of pinky fingers as Lexie Patterson lost both of hers, as Mandy leaves Boomer reveals that Lou still has crew in prison and she could get them back together. Boomer and Lou talk with each other again in the dining room and later in the yard when Boomer is rude about Reb to Lou. Boomer is later punched in the shower block and almost suffocated, but Lou stops short and tells Boomer that if she talks to Reb like that ever again, she will kill her. Boomer tells Allie about what happened and says that it really did feel like what happened to Liz. Boomer is present when Allie cuts off Lou's finger.
In episode two Boomer, sees Lou come out of medical and informs those in the dining room she saw her with a 'big fuck off bandage'. Boomer then realises that Lou is planning to scam the inmates and tells Allie, Allie later tells Lou if its true, Lou says she's trying to raise money for Reb, Boomer says Allie doesn't know what Lou is like but she does at she tried it last time. Boomer asks Vera how Grace is, Vera says she is good.
In episode three it is revealed that Boomer is now peer worker as she tells new inmate Judy. Boomer and several prisoners engage in the hunger strike, but Boomer breaks the strike to eat food in the dining room. Boomer later vomits while in the call centre, and she is taken to hospital with salmonella.
In episode four Boomer is first seen talking with Judy about oppression. Later Boomer and the crew talk about the siege, where Judy learns that Sean shot Boomer's mother and that Ruby says she always hated the way her mother spoke to her, Boomer is also present when they learn Joan is alive and also sees the protection prisoners in the general population. Boomer later rescues Ruby in the shower as she suffers a seizure after she gets attacked by Lou. Boomer tells Allie about it and Allie punches Marie in the face.
In episode five Boomer helps clean the media auditorium and releases a mouse that she found in the laundry, they struggle to catch it. Boomer later in the showers is almost attacked by Lou who wants answers as everyone has lost their privileges and she reveals it was Judy who sabotaged the presentation.
in episode six Boomer stands when Allie talks with Mr Jackson, and later helps Allie get information out of Marie, when she is sent out, Boomer later comes back into the cell and tells Allie that Ruby has been found.
In episode seven Boomer watches on as Judy is carried back to her cell and learns that she will be extradited to the states. Boomer makes a call from the call centre to a guy called Gavin, and when she starts to flirt with him she describes Allie to him. Boomer and Allie come up with a distraction to let Judy make her phone call, but Linda finds Judy, and she hits Boomer with the baton in retaliation. While in the showers Judy tells Boomer they can make a compliant to the ombudsmen about Linda, but Boomer just calls it tough tits. Boomer, Ruby and Judy learn that Lou has been lagging, and Judy makes a plan to assault Linda to let them make a phone call to her dad. Boomer and Ruby go along with it. Later Boomer, Judy and Ruby hide in the kitchen as Judy has lied to them and said Linda was joking about the call, but in the kitchen as they wait they ended up covering Ann's head with a spit mask, Boomer and Ruby realise it is not Linda and as Judy knocks out Ann, they stop her from attacking Ann further. Boomer and Ruby freak out and Boomer says they need to tell Allie. Boomer tells Ruby not to lag.
In episode eight Boomer is seen talking with Gavin in the call centre and later in the laundry when Lou begins a riot where she tries to control the situation but fails.
In episode nine Boomer talks with Ruby about Gavin, when Sheila enters the unit, Boomer welcomes her and asks what she is in for Sheila replies murder, and Boomer tells Sheila that she is in Liz's old cell. Boomer later learns that Gavin is coming to visit the prison.
In episode ten Boomer finally meets Gavin and they both learn they lied to each other, but Gavin tells Boomer he purposely put himself on the call list to talk to her. Boomer and Ruby finally tell Allie that it wasn't Lou who bashed the GM it was them, to leverage Linda but Ann showed up instead and things went downhill from there. Judy admits she knew it wasn't Linda.
Season 8 Part 2
In episode one, Boomer learns off of Will that Allie is returning from hospital and that he expects no retaliation attack after Lou was not charged for the attack. Boomer later sees Allie in the yard and says that Allie will be back to normal in no time. Later Ruby and Boomer talk about writing a book for Gavin Thompson. Boomer and Ruby later help Allie in the shower, and comfort her when she breaks down.
In episode two, Boomer is seen talking with Ruby, Judy, Allie and Sheila after Reb's death, later Lou confronts her in the corridor asking what she is gonna do about it. Boomer talks with Gavin about getting stuff for his website, which includes sneaking in a camera with the idea of a conjugal visit. Boomer asks Jake how Grace is and then asks Jake to on compassionate grounds to give her a visit. He refuses, but when Boomer takes his picture of Grace she guilts him into doing it. Jake later takes Boomer to her conjugal, with Boomer watching Gavin masturbate into a bag, with Linda escorting Boomer away. Boomer rushes back to her unit and puts the sperm into the syringe with Ruby's help. Boomer later learns from Lou that Sheila is dead and she killed her, she yells at Boomer for her lack of action and declares herself top dog.
In episode three, Boomer's camera plan doesn't get off to a good start, she says that she's only captured a few scrag fights, 'droopy tits' and dry humping. Boomer talks with Ruby and Boomer asks if Ruby is thinking about her dad, she says yes. Boomer later in the yard stands up for the top dog vote and is voted in. Later in the dining room Boomer has custard dumped on her head by Lou Kelly (Wentworth) and when Boomer leaves she says she will go for the shiv fight as she was done being pushed around. Boomer and several inmates learn of the Restraint Station's and find them to be a terrible idea. When the shiv fight is brought on earlier then expected Boomer is by herself in her cell and has to psych herself up. Boomer comes into the fight but loses when she is stabbed multiple times. Linda gives an update to Ruby and the gang and says that her natural padding protected her vital organs and she would be back soon.
In episode four, Boomer has returned from hospital and Allie asks how she is. Boomer says she's itchy which Allie telling her that is good it means that her wounds her healing, Boomer then proceeds to call everyone in the yard a 'cunt'. Boomer later talks with Ruby and says that even though she lost the fight it was still good, but had regrets that she didn't film it. Boomer talks with Gavin again about the camera and he says that he will pay extra.
In episode five, Boomer is first seen when Linda and the other guards have to do a cell search and strip when Boomer's camera leaks stuff to Gavin's website, Boomer is almost slotted when she refuses to cooperate. Boomer in the yard asks is Ruby and Allie can "root" for the website, Ruby says she needs to get rid of the camera or she'll get belted. Boomer promises its the last time she'll use the camera, Ruby agrees to talk with Zaina about it, and later they film a snuff film. Boomer is seen in the showers with Ruby and Judy comes in and tells them to go an play basketball. Judy is found out and Boomer wants to kill her but Rita says to put it to the women. Boomer is later slotted after attacking Judy and yelling at her for changing Allie's life. Boomer in the slot talks with Miller.
In episode six, Boomer is released from the slot to learn that Judy hadn't died after the women attacked her. Boomer later freaks out during the cell search when she realises that Linda knows she has the Slammer cam banked. Linda tells Boomer to either squat and cough or she'll use the glove. Boomer says not without her say so. Boomer then knees Officer Nathan Green in the groin and has a go a Linda when she threatens the slot on her. Boomer later learns that Marie wants to transfer into her unit but refuses. Boomer later phones Gavin and tells him that she needs to get the camera out of Wentworth. Boomer is later seen in the dining room when she tells the women she's off her food.
In episode seven, Boomer has another conjugal visit with Gavin Thompson where the two have sex after Boomer describes in detail what was on the camera that she record. Boomer after they are done says that Gavin will have to "lube up" to hide the camera. Boomer is later seen in the H1 unit when Anna Deng is doing the count.
In episode eight, Boomer says that she isn't feeling well and the women ask her to take a pregnancy test, Boomer refuses until Ruby gets Zaina to smuggle one in. Boomer takes the test and it comes out positive and she celebrates. Boomer plans to meet Gavin in the visitors centre but she never shows up.
In episode nine, Boomer is seen in Marie Winter (Wentworth)'s nightmare but when Marie wakes up Boomer is seen watching the TV on Joan's trial. Boomer goes off at Marie after she reveals she didn't know the recordings were still on the phone. Later Boomer is in the yard when Lou tells the women if she is with her or "The Pig" meaning Rita. Later after Marie dies Boomer mourns and says that they treated her poorly.
In episode ten, Boomer is seen in her cell mourning Marie's death. Boomer later hugs Ruby after she has a phone call with Gavin Thompson who revealed that he had been arrested and sent to jail for the SlammerCam. Boomer tells Gavin she is pregnant and Gavin is happy for her and tells her that he will be there for her. Boomer and the H1 family are then told by Jake after Allie comes in and tells them that Lou killed Marie that the unit will be placed into lockdown. Later when the prison explodes, Boomer and Ruby are trapped in the unit as inmates run past them telling them "they deserve it." When Boomer and several inmates make it outside, Boomer tells Officer Gavin Ford that she will go back in and get Allie but is told to stop by Will. When Linda prepares to do the count Boomer says that they need to go back in and get Allie. Linda reveals that "H1's gone" and Boomer stands in sadness. When Allie is brought out of the building by firefighters she is happy.
Boomer's last lines are "Its a bloody miracle aye."
Trivia
- Boomer shows similar traits to Alice Jenkins (Lurch). They both have someone to help them think for them.
- Whilst being an original character, Boomer shares similar traits to that of Margo Gaffney, both are known to have violent tempers and be prone to getting locked up in Solitary.
- Boomer has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), which is confirmed when she goes to visit her mother, May Jenkins, during her day release.
- Boomer, Liz, Vera and Will are the only characters to appear in every episode. Starting in Season 8, Boomer, Vera and Will are the only characters to appear in every episode, as Liz no longer appears due to her death.
