"Rec room aye? Let's wreck it.."

Sarah West is a former inmate of Wentworth Detention Centre who suffers a lot of racism from Spider and sometimes Rodney, and she was known for her attitude.

West finally manages to calm down in the end. She is transferred to Barnhurst for her own protection.

Time At Wentworth[]

She first appeared in the lock up as one of Pamela Madigan's cases. A fiery, impulsive Aboriginal inmate who suffers from abuse from racist prisoners and (Joan Ferguson however feels sorry for Sarah and willingly punishes anyone for slurs), especially from Spider Simpson and Vicki McPherson who tie her up and paint her white, and to get back at the women, Sarah sets up a tripod releasing poisonous fumes of hydrochloric acid through the air conditioning. Rita Connors catches her hiding in the showers and makes her dismantle the tripod, she confesses to Ann Reynolds and everyone else that she did it resulting her to the Pound.

Rita, eventually gets through to Sarah that not everyone there wants to hate her, also to punish Spider back alone. Pamela manages to trace her foster parents, who tell Sarah the truth about her real parents, her mother has died and her father is a white alcoholic. It turns out that they didn't abandon her like she thought, they did love her but the social worker upon finding baby Sarah with her maternal grandmother took her away and they tried for years to find her. Sarah forgives her foster parents and they will pay her defence for her trial.

She was transferred to Barnhurst for her own safety after Ernest Craven's threats to Pamela. Before she goes she says goodbye to Rita, promising her that once she's released that she'll visit her real Father, when she goes she alerts the others of Rita's return to give her hope.

  • Sarah West was one of the only Australian Aboriginal characters to appear in the cast along with Pamela in the entire 'Prisoner' series.
