Ruby Mitchell is an inmate of Wentworth Correctional Centre.
Ruby before her arrest was an up and coming boxer training under her sister Rita Connors (Wentworth), before an accident left Ruby with a brain injury which would cause her seizures.
Ruby is sent to Wentworth and is moved to H block after Joan Ferguson and Franky Doyle escaped from Wentworth. When Rita is sent to Wentworth Ruby tells her to say out of her way.
When Ruby is up for parole she puts it all on the line and takes the blame for Narelle Stang's charges because she wants to protect Rita.
Ruby later gets day release and is kidnapped and later charged with Accessory to the Murder of Detective Morelli.
Ruby survives the prison explosion.
Time At Wentworth[]
In episode 6x01 She reveals she has arrived in Wentworth three months before (that means she was there even during the previous season, but never seen due to being in another block) and she still has six left in her sentence; she was charged for resisting an arrest.
Since Allie and Ruby met, there was good relationship between the two of them, involving flirting.
After having an argument with Spike Baxter in the canteen, she attacked and hurt her severely in the showers, after being threatened.
It is revealed that she is hiding a bigger crime who would have a sentence of some years.
Later in the same episode, it is revealed as well that new inmate Rita Connors is her sister, and she managed to have herself arrested and come to Wentworth just in order to help Ruby.
In episode 6x02, her boxing skills are noted by inmate Vicky Kosta while she is training with the heavy-bag. Hence, Kosta will force her to fight in an illegal match in the laundry against inmate Latham. After winning, Ruby gains the respect of the other inmates and is later paid a big amount of money.
Mitchell suffers a nervous crisis while she is in the showers, and she is rescued by Allie. It is later stated by Rita that this illness is due to a car accident in the past. Rita will then ask Novak to keep an eye on her younger sister, avoiding that she gets into bigger troubles, especially if she cannot control her violent instincts.
In episode 6x03, a friend comes to visit her and tells her about an important boxing tournament in the Philippines. Ruby gets completely fascinated by the idea of participating, so she accepts to be involved into Vicky's fighting club in order to gain money to leave for it. She states some conditions, though: fighting only with proper boxing rules (no kicks or other moves, only punches) and with proper equipment (gloves), and the 20% of the profits. Vicky accepts, in change of her deciding when and where to fight.
Later, she fights against Spike and wins, but remains severely hurt due to Baxter hiding an iron fist under a boxing glove. She is later cured by her sister Rita. Her relationship with Allie keeps intensifying.
Later in season 6 it's revealed that Ruby suffers from seizures and during a moment were she falls down the stairs and is taken to hospital it is revealed that she has been living with a brain aneurysm for some time. Linda Miles takes it on herself and informs Allie of the diagnosis and tells her to stop the fight. Ruby gets furious at Allie and says boxing is the only thing she has left. Later when Ruby wants to fight, its revealed that Rita is undercover deeply and will protect her and went as far as going into Ruby's fight and fighting Drago.
Season 7[]
In season 7 Ruby waits and watches Rita come out of the slot and hugs her when she comes back into the compound. Ruby also reveals she's getting out soon and that she is still boxing. Ruby helps Boomer help Liz create her bucket list. Later Ruby reveals she has taken on Stang's charges to protect her sister.
Ruby in episode 6 finally reveals to Marie that she killed Danny after he raped her friend. Ruby apologies and says she didn't mean to kill him, this is after Allie asked her if she killed Danny as Drago had left a note. Ruby is poisoned by Marie and Rita sees her walking around troubled, Ruby thinks she's about to have a seizure and asks Linda to help her to medical. Ruby is in medical as the doctor assesses her and says its not related to her epilepsy, she almost gets attacked by Marie when she is stopped by Vera. Ruby is released from medical and returns to her unit where Boomer's mother May decides it is a great idea to press the panic button, at the same time Ruby collapses again.
Ruby collapses after her brain aneurysm finally bursts
Ruby in episode 7 undergoes immediate brain surgery to clip her brain aneurysm, but complications arise from it and they have to monitor her condition. Ruby finally wakes up with Rita beside her.
Ep 8[]
In the sally port the brawler arrives as Ruby is sitting in the back and staring into the light, the doors open and as they open she stands revealing a patch of hair with a scar from her surgery. In H Block Boomer is walking around as she takes notices of Ruby's return by calling her 'Bruiser' and giving her a massive hug, as Ruby jokes and says that Boomer might burst something else with the hug and says that she doesn't care. Liz tells Boomer that the hug is done and to let her go as Ruby is asked how she is feeling, Ruby says that she feels like she has been ko'ed and Boomer says that she will be like Rocky and get on the bag again she knows it. Ruby jokes and says did Rocky have a brain aneurysm as well and Boomer says that he probably did because of the way he talked. Allie comes out of her cell and says hello and says that she is glad to see Allie, Ruby says thank you and says that she is going to go for a rest, Ruby walks back to her cell and closes the door.
Ruby is welcomed back to H Block after returning from hospital
In her cell Ruby tries to zip up her jumper but realises that she has weakness and looks at her hand as Rita comes in and welcomes her back with a big hug, Ruby grimaces as Rita apologizes as Ruby jokes and says that the drugs they have given her will probably give her more hair and Rita jokes back saying she would look good with a beard. Ruby then feels dizzy as she says that she has to sit down and Rita asks if she is ok, Ruby says yes and then asks why Allie is back in their unit and Rita tells her that Allie broke up with Marie and saved her life in the process, Ruby looks away knowing that would have been hard for her.
Ruby goes to see Allie who is in her cell as Ruby says hello to her, Ruby says to her that Rita told her what she did for her, Allie says that it was a no brainer and that she wouldn't let Marie hurt her. Allie asks if she wants to come into her cell and sit down, Ruby agrees and sits down as Allie sits down as well, Ruby apologizes to Allie for treating like shit and says that she only broke off their relationship because of the whole Danny situation and thought Allie would tell Marie about it. Ruby tells Allie that she never stopped thinking about her, as the two hold and release hands Allie tells her what she said to her was true and that it made her think about how she doesn't like being alone and needs to be with someone and says that she needs to sort that out. Ruby then says she does need help having to shower and says that the job is open if Allie wants it, Allie laughs and says she can do that for Ruby.
During the night, Ruby shares a moment with the women after Liz sees her son Artie for the first time in years, they all share a laugh and Ruby says that a year is a long time for anyone to be together.
Ep 9[]
Rita sees Ruby in her cell struggling to put her shirt on as Rita watches she goes into her cell and helps her put her shirt on as Ruby explains to Rita that the doctors have said that she may have some temporary issues with mobility and strength as Rita says of course and Ruby also says that he coordination may also be affected and she says that she may be a bit wonky for awhile. Rita says that she will be alright, Ruby says that she won't be able to box again as Rita embraces her and says that she will as Ruby says that she is too weak, Rita says that she will help her get strong again, as Ruby says that she is scared and Rita tells her that she doesn't need to be scared of anything or anyone as she continues to comfort her sister,
Ruby struggles to do the laundry, Allie says that she is not up to it and Ruby says that she is ok, Allie gets Linda's attention and tells her that Ruby needs to go to medical, but Linda coldly says that she should tell someone who cares, Allie replies to Linda saying that it is her first work unit back from the hospital and tells her to have a heart. Linda gives up and tells Officer Peta Webb to take Ruby to medical and get checked out, as Peta calls her over and Ruby leaves.
Ruby is taken to medical by Officer Peta Webb and is locked in when the siege begins and when she asks if she can go, Webb says no while they are in a lockdown.
Ep 10[]
Ruby survives the siege as she is locked in medical, but when she is told to move by officer Webb, she does so, but goes to find Marie. Ruby provokes Marie and Marie grabs Ruby almost slicing her throat, but is saved when Allie shoots Marie in the leg. Ruby later has to say goodbye to Rita again when she is taken into police protection.
Season 8[]
In episode one is first seen in the yard when Boomer runs to speak with Allie about Lou. Ruby asks if they will have problems. Later is seen in the exercise yard when Vera comes to the prison with Grace.
In episode two, learns that she will receive her parole soon, but has to speak with police after Marie makes an allegation about Ruby killing Danny. Ruby lies to the cops telling them that Marie is insane, they ask to see her tattoo but the only thing there is a scar, when Will finds out Ruby lied to the police and him, Ruby tells Will the truth about the night she accidentally killed Danny. Will decides to protect Ruby and changes her file with Vera agreeing to do the same for Ruby and doing it for Rita. Ruby learns from Will that the police will most likely not press charges.
In episode three Ruby learns that her father has cancer and she breaks down when she tells Allie that she can't do it without Rita. Ruby reveals the truth about Rita to her father, and says that she was the trouble maker not Rita as Rita was an undercover cop.
In episode four Ruby is first seen talking with Judy and Boomer in their unit. Ruby later learns from Allie that every single protection prisoner is being released into the general population, and she watches on as everyone from the unit goes into the yard and is present when they learn of Ferguson's survival. Ruby talks with Boomer and Ruby tells Boomer that she hated how her mum talked to her. Ruby is later attacked in the showers but it saved by Marie who grabs the shiv off of Lou and says its not what she wanted, but Ruby is seen having a seizure. Boomer comes in and finds Ruby on the floor, screams at Marie and presses the panic button, Boomer is seen in medical with Ruby.
In episode five Ruby learns of her day release which may be short lived due to Judy and Boomer's distraction in the Auditorium so Ruby can learn of Rita's location. Ruby finally gets her day release and goes to see Rita, but later ends up kidnapped by Morelli and Jones.
In episode six Ruby is saved by Rita who tells her to lie about her location and says that she needs to hand herself in and say she forgot about curfew.
In episode seven is returned to Wentworth to learn from an angry Allie she almost killed Marie because she thought Marie had her killed. Later seen in the Call Centre making a distraction so Judy can be snuck in to call her father, watches Linda hit Boomer with her baton. Ruby and Boomer later agree to Judy's plan to scare Linda into letting her call her father, but when Judy lies to tell them there was never a call, they agree to go the kitchen under the impression Linda will be the one going into the kitchen after the bag Ann and realise it's not Linda, Boomer and Ann try their best to stop Judy from attacking Ann any further, when they run off to their unit Ruby calls Judy an idiot. Ruby decides to write a note and slip it into the mail room.
In episode eight Ruby watches Allie speak to Will in the call centre, as the prison is still in lockdown following Ann's attack. Watches as the women riot and later tells Allie "What would Bea have done."
In episode nine Ruby is seen talking with Boomer about "hot as fuck" phone guy when Jake brings in new inmate Shelia, later see's Judy have an acid trip and watches Sheila calm her down.
In episode 10 Ruby finally learns that Judy knew that Ann would end up the one being bashed.
Season 8 Part 2[]
In Episode one, Ruby and Boomer talk about how they again let Allie down before she returns from the hospital. Ruby later tells Boomer and Allie that Rita is with Blair Mitchell, and later has a phone call with him, she tells him that she loves him, Ruby helps Boomer write for Gavin and makes fun of Sheila Bausch when she makes fun of the idea. Ruby and Boomer later help Allie in the showers and comfort her when she breaks down.
In episode two, Ruby buys a syringe from Zaina Saad for Sue "Boomer" Jenkins when Boomer wants Gavin to give her "spoof", Ruby tells Boomer the position she's lying in is only good for swollen ankles. Ruby later says goodbye to Blair Mitchell when he passes away. In unison Rita Connors, Aunty Fran sing a chant for him, while Ruby cries in her cell. Ruby later learns in the dining room that Sheila is dead and Lou declares herself as top dog.
In episode three, Ruby sees Rita for the first time in ages when Rita returns to the prison. Ruby tells Rita to fight her charges because she feels like she let her dad down, Rita tells her she hasn't. Ruby later plans to shiv Lou but is stopped by Rita who tells her to think about her parole, Ruby says that she hasn't given up yet Rita has. Ruby later agrees to be Boomer's 'second' during the shiv fight that is brought forward and almost has to defend it, but Boomer takes over. Ruby after Boomer gives up the role of top dog says she'll be ok. Ruby later asks Linda for an update on Boomer.
In episode four, Ruby talks with the police when Rita goes to them to talk about Detective Morelli. Ruby tells them she absconded from day release because she was kidnapped. The police don't believe and Ruby may end up being charged. Ruby says she wont stay silent. Ruby talks with Eddie about it and he says that they were only ever after Rita.
In episode five, Ruby is seen when Linda and several guards during a cell toss, Ruby is later seen in the yard telling Boomer that she needs to get rid of the camera because its becoming too hot. When Boomer asks Ruby to film with Allie, Allie jokes and says they would know its her, while Ruby says she could ask. Ruby watches on as Boomer films Zaina and the person she is with. Ruby is later spotted in the storeroom of the kitchen when the women try to kill Judy.
In episode six, Ruby is first seen when the guards do yet another cell toss. Ruby later takes Allie back to her unit and she reveals what is said to her during the conversation. Ruby is later seen in the dining room and asks Boomer if she's okay, Boomer says that she needs to get the camera out because Smiles knows.
In episode seven, Ruby is seen having sex with Zaina, and it is revealed that she is with Zaina now, when Ruby takes Allie for a shower. Ruby is later seen when Marie is moved into H1.
In episode eight, Ruby learns off of Rita that the police are talking to Rita again and that something should come from it. Ruby later gets informed by the police that she will be charged as an accessory to Detective Morelli's death. Ruby talks with Zaina about getting her a pregnancy test as she is late. And later makes Boomer take the test where they find out that she is pregnant. Ruby is later in the yard when Rita is finally exposed to the women as a former cop.
Marie saves Ruby from being attacked
In episode nine, Ruby in the dining room is seen "disowning" Rita in a show of rejection as Lou has threatened everyone. Ruby blames Marie for how Rita ended up bashed. later Ruby tells Marie that she needs to step up. Ruby later goes to the set up where Lou says she almost believed her, but when she is getting bashed by Lou's henches, she is told to leave by Marie. When Marie's body is found a code black is called and Ruby is seen coming back to the unit where she says it was a trap and that Lou was waiting for them and knew they were after the phone.
In episode ten, Ruby is first seen walking with Allie and the team and later learns from Allie that Lou was the one who stabbed Marie Winter and then they learn at the same time the governor has decided to lockdown H1. After the prison explodes Ruby and Sue "Boomer" Jenkins are trapped in H1 as Zaina finds the two of them and says that a bomb has gone off and "half the prison is gone", Ruby tells Zaina to get an officer to help them out. As Ruby and Boomer make it out they learn that H1 has collapsed. When Allie is brought out on a gurney she says that she 'found something' and it was the phone. Ruby and Rita celebrate.
