Jake Stewart is a Senior Officer and the former Deputy Governor at Wentworth Correctional Centre.
Stewart before his time at Wentworth served as a warder at Long Bay Prison and Walford Prison, in which his time at Walford he had a consensual sexual relationship with Sean Brody.
Stewart's arrival at Wentworth is overseen by Vera Bennett and shown around the prison by Will Jackson. but Stewart had a plan to flood the prison with gear from Turk whom he ended up in severe debt to.
Stewart would begin a relationship with Vera Bennett under the orders of Joan Ferguson. Jake would end up having real feelings for her and later he would becomes the father to Vera's baby Grace.
Jake killed Nils Jesper on Ferguson's orders as he needed to clear his drug debt
Jake is shown to be a sneaky, egotistical, cowardly and highly intelligent man. While he initially comes off a charming, easy going officer, it is soon apparent that Jake is a corrupt officer who specialises in dealing drugs, Jake has also shown to be capable of cold blooded murder when under pressure, as he shot Nils Jesper dead and blew up the van he was in to hide any evidence and so that he could not reach court and give evidence against Joan Ferguson. Vera threatened to sack Jake at the end of season 5, but Jake made his move and said he could lift the lid on Vera for allowing Bea to escape.
Season 5 and 6
Jake becomes deputy governor in season 5 after Will Jackson was suspended from duty due to a positive drug test. Jake with the help of the prisons drug dealers Tina Mercado and her crew manage to flood the prison with gear. Jake eventually cuts ties with Turk.
Jake also deals with the guilt of killing Nils Jesper for Joan Ferguson (Wentworth), and he attempts to hide the fact that it was him who did it. But thanks to Will Jackson (Wentworth) finding out what he did. Will confronts Jake and makes him realise what he did for Joan. Jake asks Will if he's going to go tell the cops, Will then asks him if he did, 'would he admit it'. as Jake breaks down realising his actions.
Jake later finds out a plot to use the workshop to escape, when he checks the workshop after Doug Williams reports an issue to him, Jake checks it out, but is distracted when Sonia Stevens (Wentworth) collapses. Jake sees Allie as she tries to make her way back to the unit. Allie tells him of the plan, and Jake later tells Will about it. Jake helps Joan gets into the box in the workshop to be shipped out.
Jake realises the severity of killing Jesper for Joan
Jake tries in season 6 to help Will with his guilt and he doesn't realise his actions gets Nurse Radcliffe fired after drugs go missing from medical as Jake was the one who acquired drugs for Will to get some sleep.
Jake later learns from Will that Will had buried Joan alive, much to his shock and dismay the two argue over how they are dealing with the consequences.
Jake learns that Vera knows that he killed Jesper and he threatens Will that he will go down with him, so they later dig up Ferguson.
Jake is apart of the officer squad that breaks up the inmates after Rita Connors (Wentworth) beats Zara Dragovich to death, and Vera is taken to hospital after being knocked out. He later finds out that Vera is pregnant and he says he can make it work, but Vera refuses and tells him he will have nothing to do in her life or the baby’s.
Season 7
Jake is still seen on extremely shaky ground with Vera, and in the premiere is very protective of her, stopping a game of basketball due to Kosta becoming rowdy and throwing a ball at her and says "you could've hurt Vera." with prisoners murmuring to themselves as Vera is furious about this, she tells Jake to stop being so protective. This is seen again when Vera is held hostage in the yard and screams at the inmate to let her go, Jake is later seen in the visitors centre for Rita's wedding, but holds her back once she receives devastating news.
Jake continues his jealously when Vera starts to become more attached to Dr Miller, but gets his nose out of joint when Linda receives the promotion to Acting Deputy as Will tells him he can't trust him and he at first thinks its a joke Linda would even go for acting deputy. Jake is also there when Liz wants to tango with someone but not one of the prisoners know how to, Jake decides to tango and tick of an item on Liz's list.
Jake in episode three meets old work colleague Sean Brody who transferred from Walford to Wentworth, Jake takes another strong disliking to him, and tells him to "go fuck himself" but not before he says not to "start shit up" meaning Jake was possibly involved with the drug running at Walford.
Jake talking to Vera
Jake is seen in episode 4 firstly checking for drugs in the kitchen, and he finds them, he becomes furious when Will doesn't slot her for the drugs and has a go at Sean, he later becomes furious at Vera when she told Miller about the sex of the baby and that he is sick of fighting to be a father because he is trying to make the prison safe for her. Jake's past is also revealed when he speaks with Sean he admits that he was going straight after being gay and turning his life around after years of being bent.
In episode 5, Jake sides with Vera and says that the memorial is a bad idea and during the memorial he talks with Linda who holds a fire extinguisher who tells him that the prison "isn't burning down on her watch." and later the two have to push past prisoners to get to a prisoner and slot her. Jake informs Allie that they have CCTV of the killer and that they were wearing a hoodie when they committed the crime. Jake, Linda and Will later drug bust Kosta and Hutchins and find a lot more then they bargain for.
In episode 6, Jake's jealously again comes to the forefront, as he is pissed off that Vera is close to Miller, and Jake later learns off of Nurse Shen that Liz's medication helps but she had a rocky start to the medication due to a psychotic episode, later Jake sneaks into Miller's office and takes a photo of Liz's file and reports him to the medical board, he also spots Brody handing drugs over to Marie, and when Brody tries to blackmail him, Jake smashes him up against his locker and says that he has been blackmailed by smarter people than him (meaning Ferguson), Jake is later suspended as Brody has falsely accused him of a "sustained campaign of sexual harassment" Jake refuses to believe it but he leaves the room suspended pending an internal investigation.
Ep 7
Jake tells Vera that he had a sexual relationship with Sean while at Walford
Vera walks to the carpark where she sees Jake standing next to his car, Vera asks what he is doing there and what is so urgent, and Jake says that he needs to tell his side of the story, Vera says that Jake had his chance during the meeting and he didn't say anything, Jake said that he tried but no one listened to him and says that Sean's claim against him to total shit. Vera says to him that horseshit or not the claim needs to be investigated. Jake sighs and says that he wants to be totally honest with her and says that he did have a consensual sexual relationship with Sean while they were at Walford, Vera then says that just proved how little she knew about him. Jake says that he next harassed Sean and he has some sort of agenda and he doesn't know what it is and he says that Vera has to believe her, Vera points out that he has lied to her so many times before. Jake asks Vera what to do and Vera says that her best advice is to go home and wait it out and hope that the investigation doesn't show up anything, Vera walks off as Jake looks on.
Jake confronts Sean in the prison to tell him to drop the complaint
During night rounds, Sean is doing his rounds and looking around as he is spooked by Jake who snuck into the building, Sean asks what he is doing there and Jake says that he needs to speak with him. Jake and Sean go to the boiler room as Jake tells Sean that he needs to withdraw the complaint as he could ruin his career, Sean refuses as Jake says that he is also ruining his relationship with Vera, Sean scoffs and says sarcastically that Vera holds him in such high regard. Jake then says that he has been trying to convince Vera over the last few months that he isn't a total weasel and that if he keeps going he will ruin any chance he had left. Sean then says that women are 'fickle' and says that is where Jake went wrong and he should've just stuck to 'sucking cock'. Jake looks on as he asks if Sean was jealous, Sean says that he isn't. Jake walks over to him and says that he wants to be there and know his daughter he then says he will do whatever Sean wants but he must withdraw the complaint. Sean tells Jake to convince him as Jake takes off Sean's belt and drops it to the floor as Jake says he knows that Sean was pissed off that he ended things, Sean tells him to fuck off and denies that as he says that Walford is like shooting fish in a barrel, Jake then says not at Wentworth and turns Sean around as Jake asks if that it was he has been hitting on him the 'lack of options'. Sean then says it would be a bridge to far to have a threesome with Jake and Mr Jackson. Jake hearing all he needs to hear walks off and shuts the door behind him as Sean calls him a 'soft cock',
Jake says he was taught by a 'master' after Sean got him suspended
Sean walks out of Wentworth into the carpark where he is met by Jake. Jake asks him if he got his message, Jake then tells Sean to withdraw the complaint again or Will and Vera get a copy of the audio, Sean says that Jake is bluffing and that he doesn't 'have the balls' to tell Vera about them. Jake says that he has already told Vera about it and Sean exclaims that he would've loved to have seen the look on Vera's face. Jake says that she will be less impressed to find out what a weasel Sean really is, Sean then says that Jake learned some tricks himself and Jake says that he was taught by the "master" and that person is now deceased. Sean then says that Jake has won that round and says that he will withdraw the complaint, Jake asks him what he is going to tell them, Sean says that he will tell them that he overreacted and they sorted it out privately, Jake nods and he begins to walk away when Sean says that it is a waste and that they would've been good together.
Ep 8
Linda is in the staffroom listening to a horse race on her phone and the horse loses, she swears as she gets up to leave, she is asked by Jake if she is ok and she doesn't respond to him but responds to Sean and swears at him before walking out. Sean laughs as he says it isn't his fault Linda is a saw loser and Jake just stares at him.
Jake talks to Artie
Liz is in her unit as she watches Boomer cover May up as May had to sleep of being drunk. Liz spots Jake and asks for him to wait up as she tells him that she needs to see Dr Miller, Jake says that she has already seen him today and he is booked out for the rest of the day, Liz tells him that she needs to see him, Jake asks why and Liz says that her son is coming to visit her and Jake says that is great, Liz then says that it's really not and that some 'asshole' reported him to the medical board for it, Jake asks what if the medication was making it worse, and Liz says that it was actually helping her and she needs a clear mind, Jake clearly feeling guilty cannot look at Liz but takes her to see Greg.
Jake comes out with Artie and Liz stands up as they walk over to her, Jake says to Liz that Artie is being given the VIP treatment and leaves them to talk.
As Artie goes to sign out of his visit, Jake comes over and speaks to him and he says that Liz was really looking forward to speaking with him and her nerves must of got the better of her, Artie says that they probably did and Jake says that he knows that Liz is a good person and Artie mustn't give up or he will miss the chance and something really great with his mum and as Artie says why does he care, as Vera is listening in the background, Artie is told by Jake to stick it out as he may not get another chance to do so before Artie walks away..
The next morning Jake walks to the unit and he tells Liz that Artie will be in again for another visit and Liz surprised tells him thank you, Jake says no worries and he walks away.
Jake walks into the staffroom and he sees Sean standing over Linda at her locker as she is highly upset, Sean sees Jake and finishes talking to Linda and he walks over to Jake eyeing him up and down before he walks off. Linda tries to close her locker and as she does, Jake asks her if Sean is giving her a hard time and Linda says that she is fine, before she starts to walk away, Jake says that he knows what Sean is like and if she ever needs to talk about it here's there. Linda who is upset thanks Jake and walks away as Jake watches on.
Ep 9
The following morning Linda is in her car as she is on the phone to Sean's bookie who is threatening her for payment, as Linda says that she doesn't have it, she screams 'fuck' and hits the steering wheel. Jake arrives at work and spots Linda almost in tears and decides to talk with Linda, Linda sees him as Jake says that whatever is going on he knows that it has something to do with Sean, Linda looks at him as Jake asks what he has done and that she can tell him, Linda looks at him again before asking if Sean is making her peddle gear around the prison, Linda says to Jake that she isn't a drug dealer "for fuck sake.." and Linda says that it is his bookie and says that she owes them money, Jake asks how much and Linda reveals that she is $20,000 in debt, Linda then tells Jake that she made a deal with Sean to wipe the debt but the "pricks backed out..", Jake asks what kind of deal and Linda says that she cannot tell him and says that she is 'fucked' and she begins to breakdown as Jake tries to comfort her, Jake notices that Vera is walking into work and as Vera does she looks up to the offices.
Linda breaks down after revealing her $20k debt
Jake comes into the office and asks what is going on and Will says that there is something going on in small medical but he doesn't know as he picks up the phone and tells all officers near or around the admissions corridor to have 'eyes on', he hangs up the phone and says that there is an injured officer down there and Vera is there too as well as Winter and Birdsworth and he doesn't know who else is there, Jake looks at the monitor and wonders what the hell Sean is doing.
Jake says that it might have something to do with Linda as Sean has his hooks into her for $20k. Will radios Sean once again and asks what is going on, as Sean comes out of the room and says that he needs Will to open the airlock, Will refuses and says not until he tells him what it is about, and Sean says at that moment it is about him opening the door, as Rita watches on from her cell, the others are still in the room as Will asks who the other officers are, Sean doesn't say anything as he finally produces the gun and aims it at the camera telling Will to open the airlock, Jake tells Will to open the airlock as Vera is in there, Will agrees but only for him the other two officers, Sean says that he can't do that and says that they are both coming with him as insurance, furious Jake demands Will give him the radio, Will tells him that he won't get far as he is informing the police, and Sean responds with if he does call the police in he will shoot Vera and demands Will open the airlock. Jake tells Will to just let Sean go as Will picks up the phone and tells his PA to call the police as they have a code red in progress, as a dumfounded Jake asks what Will is doing as he heard what Sean said and that he was going to hurt Vera, Will asks what the hell is he trying to do.
Jake tells Sean he is a 'dead man' if he hurts Vera
Will then asks Jake if work unit is still on, as Will switches the camera over from the admissions corridor to the laundry as inmates are still doing work, Will finally turns off the alarm as the inmates celebrate the alarm finally stops blaring as the phone starts ringing, Linda walks over to answer it, Linda hears Will say it is him as Linda asks what was with the alarm, Will says that the prison is in lockdown as Sean has taken over the admissions corridor, Linda in disbelief says "He's what?", Will asks Linda if she has any idea of what is going on and Linda says that she doesn't as Will says that she owes him money, Linda sighs as she reveals that it is not the money and it has something to do with Winter as Will can't believe it and says "what?", Linda says that Sean and Winter have something going on and it's all that she knows. Will tells Linda that Sean is armed with a gun and Linda is stunned and says "You're fucking kidding me..". Will tells Linda that Sean is currently in small medical with two guys dressed as officers and believes Sean doesn't know that the women are in the laundry, Will asks Linda if she thinks they can make it to the east airlock, Linda peaking through the glass sees that Wes is talking with says that she doesn't know and that all they can do is try. Will says to Linda that he will distract him and the others if they can make it to the airlock he will release it, Linda says ok as Will hangs up. Sean then tells Will that he is running out of patience as Jake picks up the radio he tells Jake that if he hurts Vera that he will kill him, as Sean responds by saying that if he wants to see Vera or his baby alive he gets the boss to unlock the airlock, Jake tells him that he is a dead man and Sean responds with "yeah.." as Jake says that he is going down there, Will tells him to stay put as they do not need more hostages down there.
Will and Jake see that they failed in their plan, as Sean tells the women who made it to get back into the laundry, as Marie watches on with Vera who is in pain, the women are herded into the laundry where Sean tells them to stay where they are, as Will and Jake watch what is going on, Linda asks Sean what is he's doing as Sean says to Linda "shut up you whiny bitch.." and to give him her guard belt, Linda shakes her head when Sean tells her to cover the cameras, Sean points the gun at Linda who then agrees and points to the women to cover the cameras, the cameras are covered as Will and Jake lose their only connection to what is going on.
Will and Jake again lose access when Sean covers the cameras in the corridor. Sean tells Will one more time to open the doors as Will repeats his name. Sean finally has enough and he pulls the trigger shooting the hostage, as the women's screams fill the governors office, as both Will and Jake react and so does Rita, as Marie looks on in horror with Sean looking at the dead hostage.
Ep 10
Jake in episode 10 blames Will for everything. But when the body is revealed to be Kosta's the SOG are sent in to help end the siege. Jake offers himself in exchange for Vera when Brody requests a methoxy whistle. He manages to make it too the boiler room to see Vera has delivered there child safely and Vera names her Grace, Grace is seen touching Jake's finger and its revealed to Boomer and Liz that Jake is the father.
Season 8
In episode one Jake is present at the governor's meeting when the guards learn that Lou Kelly and Reb Keane are making their way to the prison on a prison bus. When the bus arrives and Kelly attacks a prisoner Jake runs on to the bus. Jake escorts Kelly into the prison and tells the staff to process her then slot her. Jake later takes Marie out for her airing and is informed to take her from isolation to the Protection Unit, Jake takes her there and Marie complains and Jake says she should fit right in.
In episode two Jake is seen saying goodbye to Grace in the nursery. Jake later takes care of Grace when Vera goes on a night out with Ann. Jake wants to do more and tells Vera he loved spending time with her.
In episode three Jake takes down Judy's details when Judy comes into the prison on charges. Jake later leads to her into the yard. Jake later watches Lou's visit and catches Lou out and almost slots Lou as a result but Reb stops Jake from doing so. Jake decides to empty the syringe in the sink. Jake also takes Reb to medical after he suffers a reaction. Jake is also present when Will says the food supplier will go back to the original.
In episode four Jake alongside Will and Vera learn that Joan is alive and how she survived being buried alive. Jake is also present when Ann announces the closure of the protection unit. When they have another meeting Jake tells the officers Marie will be in H5 as it had "no prisoners from the siege" Linda retorts back saying "it wasn't just prisoners in the siege". Jake leads Marie back into general. Jake later steals medication from medical and goes to the hospital and attempts to hotshot Ferguson but she wakes up. Jake makes a run for it and tells Vera that Ferguson is awake. The trio go back to the hospital to learn Joan doesn't recognise them.
In episode five Jake is with Vera and Will when they learn of Ferguson's "total memory loss" and is later present at the presentation that Ann is giving, Jake laughs at it and later lets Ruby out on day release and has a shift in the laundry. Is told to get the hurry on by Linda about Ruby not returning.
In episode six Jake tells Lou that she is needed in medical to have her finger looked at. Later watches Ferguson return to the prison, and faces her in the psych unit, warning her that he will accept her as Kath until her mask falls off to Joan. He says to Vera later she hasn't broken character and it might be the real deal.
In episode seven Jake delivers the mail to Lou, and is present when Ann tells the guards Ferguson is going to be released back into General. Jake says its good that Joan doesn't remember who she is and Vera calls him and idiot. Jake is later in the call centre and watches on as Ann is taken to hospital.
In episode eight Jake is furious when Miller takes Joan to the creche. Jake tells Vera this. Jake then later tells Joan to stay away from his family and baby. Jake later tells Joan again that Miller is responsible for Liz Birdsworth's death as he prescribed her the wrong medication which caused her stroke. Later when the riot happens Jake forces prisoners to the wall and helps stop the riot beside Vera and Linda.
In episode nine Jake inducts Sheila to Wentworth after she is brought in on murder charges. Jake takes her to her unit. Jake later watches on as Joan as an LSD freakout and tries to stop her but gets thrown against a wall. Jake is furious with Vera when its learned she used the nanny cam to record Ferguson but it was a waste of time.
In episode ten Jake tells Vera that she is late for work as she spent half the night up trying to get her to sleep, Jake says it could be colic because "he googled it", later tells Wil and Vera about the courthouse incident and instructs Vera to get Grace and go, they manage later when the brawler arrives back at the prison to see Ferguson in the back of the brawler.
Season 8 Part 2
In episode one, Jake is first seen telling Ferguson that she has an appointment with Dr Miller, while he takes her to the appointment Joan fantasizes about snapping his neck. Jake is later seen in the security room wanting to take Grace for the night so Vera could get some sleep. Jake is later roaming the corridors when he tells Vera about the vomit on the floor. Jake is later seen escorting Ferguson back to Dr Miller.
In episode two, Jake runs to the unit to check on what is going on, he calls in other guards for help as he tells Lou he's gonna open the door. When the door is open Lou is pepper sprayed and taken away by Jake and another guard. Jake is later seen talking with Boomer about a conjugal visit with Gavin Thompson. Jake takes Boomer to her conjugal and says "If this comes back to bite me in the arse..." Boomer denies that it will.
In episode three, Jake argues with Ann in a meeting saying that the prison is understaffed for drug tests and argues about being understaffed in general he later tells Kelly to sit back down after she dumps desert on Boomer's head. Later he argues with Vera about Grace and he threatens to launch legal action against her for possible joint custody. When Vera throws him out of the office he bumps into Joan. Later seen checking the cells and Joan says to Marie "sometimes you have the kill the monster you create."
In episode four, Jake inducts Eve Wilder and immediately asks her questions about how to deal with colic. Jake later tells Vera about how he found her website but inducted her earlier, when Linda comes in and asks to help round up inmates. Jake later takes Eve to kitchen duty where zheng isn't happy about it. Jake is later asked by Vera to look after Grace for the night, Jake agrees and then asks Eve again to give him some more ideas to get rid of colic. Eve tells him boiled onion water. Jake returns to her later and said that it worked.
In episode five, Jake is first seen in the staffroom when Ann screams at the staff. Jake is later seen in the kitchen talking to Eve, he is later seen with the other officers in the staffroom partying and drinking, after he takes a couple of bottles that Linda gets from the party. Jake talks with Eve who says she would like some vodka as she has a shot before she goes to bed. Jake later gives Eve wine and then talks with Vera about how well she has been sleeping because of Eve's tips. Jake later leaving the prison, runs into Ann and says that he'll take her home because she's running at night, later the two are at the abandoned train station having sex in the car.
In episode six, Jake is first seen in a meeting where the officers learn of the changes to the roster and he asks when Jenkins is coming out of the slot, after that he attempts to speak with Ann, but she says to stick it in an email. Jake is later in the kitchen when Eve and Joan are talking. He later tells Eve that she is needed to clean the conjugal room. Jake takes Eve there and when he comes back, Eve jumps on him and he wrestles her off and throws her to the floor. He tries to help her up but is pushed away. Jake gets another officer to escort Eve back to the unit. Later Jake is on kitchen duty when he is attacked by Eve to get to Joan. Jake is found by Vera when he is reported missing by another officer. Vera asks Jake if he's been sexually assaulted he says that he doesn't know but was hit in the head.
In episode seven, Jake is first seen when Will tells the guards that Lou has been making threats against the officers. Jake tells Ann that he will tell the officers to be on guard for it. He is later seen in the shower block when Allie shivs her own legs.. Jake is last seen when Ann says she would like a car ride home as her "calf is playing up".
In episode eight, Jake is first seen talking with Ann where she again wants to have sex with him. Jake rejects her advances and says he can't do it anymore because he loves Vera. Jake later tells Vera about it and when Vera goes to take the call from Ann, Jake takes the milk that Vera laced and Vera runs off after him and tells Jake the truth that Ferguson had passports under the Kath Maxwell name. Jake is later seen in the yard when Lou reveals that Rita is a cop.
In episode nine, Jake says that he has seen the news reports of Joan saying that she could get off. Jake after Ferguson is returned to Wentworth following the fact where she finally revealed she had her memory back Jake tells her to stay away from Vera and Grace or he will kill her. Jake later takes Marie to see Rita.
Jake and Vera after the bombing of Wentworth
In episode ten, Jake is seen during the officer meeting where Will is telling everyone that they now need to be extra vigilant after Marie's death. Jake later asks Will what they are going to do about Ferguson. Jake is later seen rushing to H1 where he was ordered to lockdown H1 as protection was set to be reopened by order of the governor. Jake and Vera see on the CCTV a brawler has been sitting in the sally port for the last 20 minutes. When the prison explodes Jake is frantic as he is trying to find Vera when he asks Will where Vera was going he says 'the exec level' where Will says there is no more exec level. Jake makes it outside where he is still frantic to find Vera until he sees her come from the distance, he hugs her. When they learn that 5 officers and 28 prisoners are still unaccounted for including Joan, Jake just says Joan is no longer their problem if she is dead.
Jake last lines are "Well if she's dead then she's not our problem anymore... what?"
Trivia
Whilst there was an officer in the original series with a similar name, Jock Stewart, Jake is mainly based off another officer named Terry Harrison, they both had a romantic relationship with Vera Bennett, were corrupt

A throwaway line in season 4 from Will telling Linda that Jake is gay and Linda repeating it Vera. In S7 its confirmed that Jake was ex-lovers with Walford officer Sean Brody
Rick Donald had originally auditioned for the role of Jake Stewart before Bernard Curry got given the role, a role he almost said no to.
