"We just need this one piece of evidence to put Sonia away.."
Don Kaplan is a corrupt detective who was involved in the Sonia Stevens case of police corruption as he is behind the ruse that kept Sonia from being convicted of the murder of Helen Masters.
Kaplan goes on the run after knocking Sonia out cold.
Kaplan fled the country and is later arrested, holed up in Amsterdam, with all his cases now tainted.
Wentworth[]
He set Liz Birdsworth up to tell the court that Sonia had confessed to the murder of her friend Helen Masters, even though she didn't. Liz's testimony fell through after Helen's phone with a selfie of her and Sonia were found on the morning of the trial, resulting in Sonia being released and Liz charged with perjury.
His collusion with Sonia was revealed in the following episode, with Don to be paid handsomely for finding the phone and as a bonus, to be shown where Sonia buried the body of her husband in order to ensure she cant implicate him in the future.
Don and Sonia celebrate with drinks when it is revealed what happened during her arrest. It is revealed that Helen's phone was found in Sassafrass that morning Liz testified in court. In a flashback Sonia is under arrest when Don comes in and tells Sonia the police intend to charge her with Helen's death and that she will be remanded to Wentworth, Sonia tells him that its not an option, Don then says he has a plan he will find a way to subvert the trial but he wont 'fuck up his career' for it, but he wants a deal, for Sonia to tell him what really happened to her husband. Don tells Sonia he knows that she killed him and he doesn't know why, Sonia tells him that Geoffrey was a 'womanising arsehole' who almost ruined the business. Don doesn't press for anymore details and the two go to bed together, but what Sonia doesn't know is that Don knew his drink was spiked when Sonia goes to drive him and dump his body in the same place.

Don tells Sonia he will find a way to subvert the trial
On the way to the location, it appeared Don was suspiciously getting very tired, and when Sonia arrives and intends to kill him in order to keep her previous crimes a secret, Don knocks her out cold, knowing that she spiked his drink. Don gives all the evidence required to the police which results in Sonia's re-arrest, before taking indefinite stress leave with all her money.
It is revealed in season 6 that Don had been arrested in Amsterdam and all his cases tainted, meaning that Liz would not be charged with perjury but she was still being investigated for it, and Sonia would've walked from prison.
