Ruby fights for her life, as Jake reveals a secret from his past, as Linda works double shifts to repay her debt. Against orders Vera takes Rita out of the prison.
Ruby is wheeled into hospital after her aneurysm bursts
The opening begins with Ruby being rushed to hospital after her brain aneurysm bursts, the medical staff are wheeling her through emergency as in Ruby's head she is wondering around the prison where she notices two nurses scrubbing blood off the floor. Ruby is being prepped for emergency surgery as the staff go through what she was feeling like before it happened.
Vera tells Rita that the scans had confirmed a burst aneurysm and that she will need urgent surgery to stop the bleeding, Vera says that Ruby's condition is critical and the operation is very risky. May crudely says that she is 'cactus' as Boomer looks at her in disgust, as Rita asks Vera if she can see Ruby, Vera says that it isn't up to her and that she will need to discuss it with Will. As Vera leaves the women surround Rita in support.
Marie is sitting in the slot as the door opens and it is Sean who says that it must be her lucky day as the governor has decided to release her back into general, Marie asks if she missed anything while she was in the slot and Sean says that she did, as Marie is released, Will and Vera are talking as Vera says that she found heroin in Marie's cell, Will says that it was a very little amount and she isn't a drug lord. Vera the questions it by saying that Kaz is gone and the women are hurting and he has gone soft on drugs, Will says that he hasn't gone soft on drugs but says that is how she deals with the loss of her son, Vera then confused says is that all Marie is a 'grieving mother..' Will says that the women need her and it was the right move. Vera says that because he is feeling compassionate that Rita should be allowed to go see Ruby in hospital, Will then says that they are short staffed and Vera says that it makes sense if her fiancé had just died and Ruby may not make it, Will says that he will think about it as Vera says to think quickly about it.
Allie is in H3 wiping her face as Marie says that she heard about Ruby and if there is any news from the hospital and Allie says that she needs surgery. Marie says that it was a burst aneurysm according to Mr Brody and it was nothing to do with her. Allie then says that Marie was going to medical to attack Ruby and that she wasn't thinking clearly and that it was the only way to stop her. Marie then says that the universe will kill Ruby for her as payback for Danny. Marie says that they were family and that she is all she has left, Marie then kisses Allie with her eyes wide open.
Will is listening to a news report on Derek Channing as Marie thanks Will for letting her out of the slot and she says that she is sorry for her outburst. Marie then asks how the investigation into Kaz's death is going and Will says that the police are getting nowhere with the women as they know nothing and Vera thinks that Marie did it and Will says that Vera is just frustrated and so is he. Marie then says that while Kaz and her weren't close but says that she is doing her best and that they are now a team. Marie then manipulates Will and says that he isn't seriously going to consider letting Rita go to the hospital as it would seem unfair as she wasn't allowed to be with her son when he died and says that she is a murderer and why should she get special treatment.
Linda is in debt $20,000
Linda is walking down the stairs as she spots Sean but is stopped by Allie who asks Linda if she can transfer back to H1. Linda says that she requested to go to H3 and now wants to go back and that it isn't musical cells. Allie then asks Linda how the investigation is going and Linda says that it is practically going nowhere as nothing new has come from the investigation, Linda tells Allie that someone has to come forward with info and if they all trusted Kaz someone would say something, Allie then says what if anyone doesn't know and Linda says that no one ever knows anything and Allie pushes to where Linda says what does she want her to do 'pull the killer out of her arse.' Linda walks off as Allie says that her arse is big enough.
Linda walks over to Sean and asks if she can place another bet with his bookie and Sean almost refuses saying that Linda is already $20,000 in debt and his bookie is asking for an instalment, Linda says that she doesn't have the money on her at the moment but has a tip that is sure to bail her out. Sean agrees and says he will spot her just once but tells her to get her shit sorted.
Will talks to Vera and asks why she called the police and said that Winter obstructed the investigation and Vera says that the blood on the hoodie was a match for Winter's blood and Will says that the hoodie they want would have Kaz's blood on it and they need to find that hoodie. Vera says that if Marie killed Proctor and framed Kosta for it there is so much more she could be capable of. Will then says to leave the theories for the police and says that he is ordering another ramp and Vera questions him on it and Will says that every time they ramp the prison it is telling the women that they are still trying to find the killer. Vera says that she gets it. Will then tells Vera that he has denied the request for Rita to go and see Ruby as it goes against department protocol.
May acts rude to Boomer
In the unit, Liz asks Boomer if there is any news on Ruby and Boomer says that there is nothing and Liz says that Rita is going spare. Boomer sees that Liz is writing a letter to Artie asking him to come in and Liz says that she is feeling better on the medication and says that she needs to see Artie first and apologise to him for everything that happened. May comes out of her cell and says that if she wants to make amends she needs to let god in and have a spiritual awakening. Boomer says that Liz is in prison for mowing down her mother in law with a tractor as the two begin arguing when Boomer asks where her apology is and Liz tells them to cut it out after Rita leaves her cell and the unit, Liz tells them that there is nothing more important then family,
Rita ends up stuck in the prison fencing after trying to jump the fence
Rita paces up and down the yard as Ruby's voice echoes in her head, as Allie asks if there is any news on Ruby and asks if she is ok, Rita says that she is just waiting to find out if she can go to the hospital. Vera comes over and tells Rita that the governor has denied the visit as it is against protocol, Allie asks if there is something else they can do, Vera says that she may be able to organise a phone call once Ruby is out of surgery, Vera says that they are all hoping for the best with her. Vera walks away as Allie tells her sorry as Marie tells her that she now knows what it feels like to know when her own flesh and blood is dying alone. Rita stares and walks toward Marie as Marie looks scared after her remarks and when Marie hits the wall, Rita hits the sign next to it and runs over to the fence and starts climbing it as the inmates and staff watch on, Rita gets stuck and she tries to get out as Vera say that they are calling help for her and not to move.
Vera goes to the isolation unit where Rita is in and she opens the door to speak with Rita who is sitting in her cell desolate. Vera asks her what she was thinking and why is she refusing pain relief, Rita doesn't answer until she says that she needs to see Ruby.
Will tells Vera he won't be a sucker for a tantrum
Will refuses to talk to Vera again about his decision to deny Rita a visit to the hospital to Ruby and Vera says that he can do something on compassionate grounds. Vera asks Will if it had anything to do with Marie and he asks her what does she mean. Will then says it would make him look weak and a sucker for a tantrum if he was to go back on his decision. Vera says that there may be a way around it and says that she can take it to the general manager and take the decision out of his hands, Will asks her if she is serious and says that he took on the job because she wanted him to and says for Vera to get on board, Vera agrees and says that she won't mention it again.
Rodney is given a file to leak to the press
In the interview room. Marie is with her lawyer Rodney and she hands over a file and tells him to leak the files to the press immediately, Rodney asks how she got the photos into prison and Marie says that being top do has it's perks and he asks if she is sure, Marie says to do it and Rodney looks before he puts the images in his folder.
Linda asks Will if she can put her name down for Jake's shifts
Linda is walking with Will and says that sometimes the women must think they are running a motel and says that Allie has requested to change units again, Will asks why and Linda says that she doesn't know. As they walk and talk Linda asks Will if it fine to put her name down for Jake's shifts, Will says that there are graveyard shifts available as no one would fight her for those, Linda nods and then is ignored when she asks Will why Jake was suspended, Will tells Linda to organise another ramp and Linda says that will blow out the budget, Will tells her that he wants the killer's hoodie found.
In Greg's office he says that he wants to unpack some of the things that went wrong during day release. Boomer says to unpack this and blows a raspberry, Greg says that he thought as much and Boomer says that she thought that she was helping her mum run a business and little did she know she was going to be driving the getaway car. Greg asks how her relationship with her mother is and Boomer says that it sucks and Greg asks her to elaborate and Boomer says 'sucks ass' Boomer giggles and Greg chuckles as well, Greg asks why she helped her and Boomer says that May quit the grog and she thought that she had changed. Greg says that she was hoping to reconnect with her in a meaningful way and Boomer says that Liz said that they are lucky to have each other in prison. Greg asks if that is what she thinks and Boomer says that prison does do weird things to people.
Vera walks into the slot as she sees Sean walking with a tray, Vera asks Sean if that is Connors and he says yes and that she is refusing food. As Sean leaves, Vera walks into the control room as she is looking at the security monitor when she gets a radio call saying that there is a call waiting for her, Vera thanks the radio and she picks up the phone.
Jake tells Vera about his relationship with Sean
Vera walks to the carpark where she sees Jake standing next to his car, Vera asks what he is doing there and what is so urgent, and Jake says that he needs to tell his side of the story, Vera says that Jake had his chance during the meeting and he didn't say anything, Jake said that he tried but no one listened to him and says that Sean's claim against him to total shit. Vera says to him that horseshit or not the claim needs to be investigated. Jake sighs and says that he wants to be totally honest with her and says that he did have a consensual sexual relationship with Sean while they were at Walford, Vera then says that just proved how little she knew about him. Jake says that he next harassed Sean and he has some sort of agenda and he doesn't know what it is and he says that Vera has to believe her, Vera points out that he has lied to her so many times before. Jake asks Vera what to do and Vera says that her best advice is to go home and wait it out and hope that the investigation doesn't show up anything, Vera walks off as Jake looks on.
Marie is taken to see Will by Sean, as Marie comes into the office and Sean closes the door, Marie says that Will made the right decision about Rita as she 'went crazy' and she was out of control. Will asks Marie to take a seat, he asks her to tell her about Allie, confused Marie asks Allie and then Will says that Allie requested to move units, Marie then says that it would've been expected as she reveals to Will that Allie and her broke up. Will asks why and Marie says that she has been 'finding it hard' and that he should come by the unit and visit during the night.
Allie is pleased when Will says that she can move units
Will is walking down the hall and he hears the echo of Kaz's voice telling him that he is a good man. Will stares into space as his concentration is broken by Allie, Will says don't and Allie says that she isn't going to ask about Kaz but says that she already asked Linda about the possibility of moving units and she had said no, Allie says that she needs to move because she can't stay in H3 with everything that is going on. Will nods and says ok as Linda comes up to him and says that everything is ready for the action he had requested, Will tells Allie to return to her unit as she will be moved in the morning, as Allie thanks him and walks away, Linda can't believe that he wants to play musical cells and Will tells Linda to get on with the ramp, Linda walks off as Will looks on.
May Reads Liz's Letter
In H Block, May is reading a catalogue and sees that formula is on special but complains that she needs a smoke, Boomer says that it's a shame that she can't smoke in Wentworth now and May says 'duh', Boomer asks her if she would like a cuppa and May refuses blaming her for being in prison, Boomer looks up and sees Liz coming out of her cell, Boomer asks her if she is ok and Liz says if she can read her letter to her son, May rudely takes the letter and says that Boomer is illiterate and she would be the better judge. Boomer then asks Liz if she would like a cuppa and Liz says that she would like one. Liz sits down as May reads the letter and says that it 'stinks of desperation' and that her son owes her and tells her not to be such a 'suck'. Linda comes in with officers and tells the women to stand by their cells as it is a ramp, Boomer says that she hasn't cleaned up from the last one and May asks what is going on and Linda tells her to stand up and shut up saying 'Jenkins' Boomer replies that she is already standing and Linda says that she was talking to "the other one'. The ramp begins and lasts into the night.
Will is in his office as Vera knocks on the door, Will asks if they found anything and Vera says only the usual gear, Will swears as Vera says that she is sorry and that they have tried so hard, Will says that whoever did has gotten rid of the hoodie and the murder weapon, Vera then says that they have failed Kaz and the women, Will says that at least it didn't happen on her watch as Vera says to him that she still feels responsible for it, as she leaves, Will looks on, saddened.
Vera hears Rita's cries for her sister
In isolation Rita is singing a chant for Ruby as she sit in her cell with Vera watching from the control room. Rita keeps singing as Ruby makes her way through the prison calling for Rita in her spirit, as Rita continues the chant she cries out Ruby's name as Vera watches her on the monitor, as Rita cries for Ruby she hits herself and she hears Vera saying that everything is ok, Rita looks up to see Vera in her cell saying that it is ok and for her to go with her.
Allie watches the news report on Channing
Allie paces around the unit as the TV is playing in the background as the reporting says that there is a "chilling" development in the case of Derek Channing and the reporter reveals that media have been given leaked information regarding his business dealings and his ownership of brothels, as Marie opens her cell door she listens in and then walks over as Michael is speaking with the press and says he is retracting his previous comments about Channing purely out of 'misapprehension'. Allie looks at her and turns off the tv and asks her if she did that. Marie then says she is up late and rudely says that she is waiting for news on Ruby. Allie then says she couldn't sleep as Marie says that a guilty conscience can also do that, Marie sits down next to Allie and asks her why she asked to shift units, Marie then says she always wondered if she was a rebound and that she would choose her over the person she decided to be with "like a love sick puppy' but then says only a dog would have more loyalty then Allie does, Allie walks away back to her cell as Marie watches on.
As Vera parks in the hospital carpark and says to Rita that she cannot stuff this up for the both of them, as Rita says all she wants to do is see Ruby, Vera then undoes her cuffs. Inside Rita asks the registrar how Ruby is doing and he says that Ruby is currently about to go into surgery and that the procedure is a dangerous one with many complications, Rita asks if she can see Ruby and he says no but they are both free to sit in the waiting room, Rita tells him to say to Ruby that she is there, the registrar nods and says that he will as he walks away.
Sean tells Jake to convince him to withdraw the complaint
During night rounds, Sean is doing his rounds and looking around as he is spooked by Jake who snuck into the building, Sean asks what he is doing there and Jake says that he needs to speak with him. Jake and Sean go to the boiler room as Jake tells Sean that he needs to withdraw the complaint as he could ruin his career, Sean refuses as Jake says that he is also ruining his relationship with Vera, Sean scoffs and says sarcastically that Vera holds him in such high regard. Jake then says that he has been trying to convince Vera over the last few months that he isn't a total weasel and that if he keeps going he will ruin any chance he had left. Sean then says that women are 'fickle' and says that is where Jake went wrong and he should've just stuck to 'sucking cock'. Jake looks on as he asks if Sean was jealous, Sean says that he isn't. Jake walks over to him and says that he wants to be there and know his daughter he then says he will do whatever Sean wants but he must withdraw the complaint. Sean tells Jake to convince him as Jake takes off Sean's belt and drops it to the floor as Jake says he knows that Sean was pissed off that he ended things, Sean tells him to fuck off and denies that as he says that Walford is like shooting fish in a barrel, Jake then says not at Wentworth and turns Sean around as Jake asks if that it was he has been hitting on him the 'lack of options'. Sean then says it would be a bridge to far to have a threesome with Jake and Mr Jackson. Jake hearing all he needs to hear walks off and shuts the door behind him as Sean calls him a 'soft cock',
Marie is in her cell and she makes a call saying that if he doesn't want to end up like Channing he overturns her conviction.
At the hospital Rita paces as Vera watches her, Rita finally sits down and says that all this is her fault, the aneurysm, the car accident and the epilepsy, Vera asks her how any of that is her fault, Rita looks at Vera and says that it all comes down to a car accident and all she ever wanted to do was protect her sister and says that she 'fucked that up.'. Rita stops talking as she puts her head in her hands as Vera walks over and sits next to her, Vera tells Rita that an accident is just that an accident and none of that was her fault.
Will and Marie kiss after he says that he should've been able to prevent Kaz's murder.
Allie is laying in her cell as she hears the unit gate open, Allie gets out of bed and looks and sees that someone is being taken out of the unit. As Will and Marie have sex in his office, Marie afterward asks Will if he feels any better, he says that he does and Marie says that it has been a long time. Will says that he has been stressed out with Kaz's murder and says that he should've been able to prevent her murder and he says that there are so many "should have's, Marie says that she knows that feeling all too well as Will says that he guesses that she does..
Rita and Vera feel Grace kick
The Registrar rushes out as Rita goes over to him and asks what is going on as Vera watches on, as the registrar tells Rita what is going on, Rita turns around and walks back over to Vera. Rita tells Vera that the clip that was used misfired and that they are going to try it again but her brain is swelling. Vera asks what are they planning to do and Rita says that the surgeons are going to try and drop her blood pressure to stem the bleeding in her brain, as Vera puts her hand on Rita's leg she tells her that she is sure that the doctors are doing everything that they can to help her. Rita looks at Vera and asks why she is doing this for her and Vera doesn't say anything as Rita realises that Mr Jackson does not know and that she is risking her job and that Vera shouldn't be sitting with her half the night in her condition. Vera says that her and Ruby have such a strong bond and Vera says that she is trying to comprehend the fact that Rita beat a fellow to death, Rita says that there is no conflict there, Vera asks if she was protecting Ruby, Rita then reveals that Drago was going to kill her and Vera asks why, Rita says that doesn't matter and that they're blood and family and if she could swap she would. Vera says that she has never had that with anyone, Rita says that she will with her little one, Vera then says that she doesn't know if everyone has that instinct. Rita says that Vera has that as she is gusty and smart, Vera smiles and tells Rita that she is having a girl and Rita laughs and says that they both must be keeping her awake, Rita asks if she is kicking and Vera says that she is, Rita goes to feel Vera's belly but stops as Vera puts her hand on her belly and the two feel the baby kick.
During the night as Linda does rounds, Boomer asks her if there is any news on Ruby, Linda says that there isn't, and Boomer says if she can ask Vera, Linda says that Vera has gone home for the night. Boomer asks her that if she finds anything out if she can come and let the unit know and that there is $20 in it for her, Linda tells her not to worry about it and that she will let her know.
Vera is hugged by Rita after receiving the good news
As Vera is having a nap, Rita is standing in the corridor as the doctor comes out with nurses with Ruby. The surgeon says that Ruby came out of surgery doing well considering a complication they will settle her into the Neuro ICU and then Rita can see her. Rita breathes a sigh of relief as Vera says that is really good news, Rita then hugs Vera, as Ruby who is in ICU begins to seize as she is dreaming about being choked by Marie. Rita walks in just as the medical staff are beginning measures including giving Ruby CPR as the doctor tells Rita that she needs to leave.
Boomer is furious at May for going through Ruby's things
In the middle of the night, while sleeping on the lounge in their unit, Boomer hears noises coming from Ruby's cell and Boomer gets up and walks over to investigate, Boomer opens the door and sees that May is in Ruby's cell and Boomer asks what she thinks she is doing, May says she is going through her stuff to see if there is anything worth keeping, frustrated Boomer hears May say that Ruby may cark it and Boomer tells to get it out of her cell as May calls it all junk, as the two argue over it, Liz walks over and asks what is going on as Boomer says that May was in Ruby's cell stealing her stuff as May says if Ruby is going to die there is no point letting the guards get her stuff, Boomer yells at her and says that she isn't even dead yet and May says that she doesn't know that, Liz then tells them to cut it out or the guards will come and still them both in the slot, Liz tells May to go to bed and Boomer tells Liz not to tell her she is lucky, as Boomer walks away Liz looks on defeated.
Rita and Vera wait in the waiting room
As the clock ticks Vera and Rita are still waiting for news, Vera tells Rita that they are going to have to go back to the prison soon, Rita says that she can't, not until she wakes up. Vera then says that if they aren't back before the count Will will call the police. Rita says that if she leaves and Ruby dies there will be no one there to sing her home. Rita stares into the distance as Vera says that they can wait a little longer.
As Linda is finishing up for the night she is talking with Sean who learns that her good tip won her $3000 and she thanks him for spotting her and she puts her cup on the table and walks over to her locker saying that she is "shagged" and she doesn't know how much more she can hack working the doubles. Sean tells her that she has to get used to it as Jake won't be coming back anytime soon and that she has a lot of double shifts to work if she is going to repay her debt. Linda says that what she needs is a few more good race tips so she can kiss the double shifts the 'arse' and as she walks away she tells Sean that she owes him and Sean says that she does as Sean's phone goes off he gets a message from Jake. Sean plays the audio from Jake which was of their conversation earlier, as Sean stops playing the audio he realises that he has been played.
"I was taught by the master. She's deceased now."
Sean walks out of Wentworth into the carpark where he is met by Jake. Jake asks him if he got his message, Jake then tells Sean to withdraw the complaint again or Will and Vera get a copy of the audio, Sean says that Jake is bluffing and that he doesn't 'have the balls' to tell Vera about them. Jake says that he has already told Vera about it and Sean exclaims that he would've loved to have seen the look on Vera's face. Jake says that she will be less impressed to find out what a weasel Sean really is, Sean then says that Jake learned some tricks himself and Jake says that he was taught by the "master" and that person is now deceased. Sean then says that Jake has won that round and says that he will withdraw the complaint, Jake asks him what he is going to tell them, Sean says that he will tell them that he overreacted and they sorted it out privately, Jake nods and he begins to walk away when Sean says that it is a waste and that they would've been good together.
Rita and Vera are waiting in the waiting room, the doctor comes out of the room as Rita asks how Ruby is, the doctor says that they have controlled the seizure and says they are common after surgery and the heart thing was due to a drop in blood pressure, Rita asks if she can see Ruby and the doctor says that Ruby is still unconscious and it may not be the best time, Vera tells the doctor to 'do it'. As a nurse is making checks on Ruby, Rita comes in and she sits next to Ruby, she holds Ruby's hand as she tells her to wake up, inside Ruby's head she sees the door open with light and it is Rita guiding her toward waking up. As Rita lowers her head Ruby wakes up and moves her hand toward Rita's, Rita is happy to see Ruby awake and asks how she is feeling, Ruby says that she was looking for her, Rita says that she has been with her the entire time just outside the door and tells her that she 'cannot do that again' as she apologizes to her and kisses her hand, Ruby is happy to see her sister as Rita smiles back at her.
Liz tells Boomer it will take time for her and her mother to work things out.
Boomer sits with Liz and Boomer tells Liz that she cannot stand being in prison with her mum, and reveals it all stems back to her childhood and living with her and tells her that it was hell. Liz says that she knows and that it is the past and whatever bad blood she has with her May is still her mother, Liz then says that grog is a terrible thing as it poisons everything, Boomer says that she used to make excuses for her thinking it was the grog and now she is sober and is starting to think that May just hates her, as Boomer gets emotional Liz says that it is going to take time
Will is furious as Vera and Rita return to the prison after going to the hospital
As Vera and Rita return to Wentworth after being at the hospital, Vera tells Rita to get some sleep and Rita tells her the exact same thing before she looks and sees Will standing in the doorway of the slot, looking angry.
